Sallie Norfleet -Haskin Obituary

Sallie Ann Haskin, loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Sister, and Friend, will always be in the hearts of all that ever had the fortune to know her.

Born in Newbern, Alabama on March 17, 1955, she was the youngest daughter of Mr. Arnett Norfleet, Sr. and Mrs. Sallie Brooks Norfleet. Sallie always talked about how hard they had to work on the family farm every day. This strong work ethic helped Sallie be successful in the classroom, leading her to graduate in 1973 as Salutatorian from West Side High School in Marion, Alabama. She moved to Chicago and lived with her older siblings, where she met the love of her life, Mr. John Haskin. They were married on February 28, 1976, and to this union was born three children. Sallie dedicated herself to her family for several years, being the best mother and wife anyone could ever ask for. After all of her children went to school, she began a career in banking and other industries until she retired in 2007 due to health-related issues. The family moved to Hilliard, Ohio in 1993, which they called home for over 30 years. Sallie’s family grew over the years with the marriage of her children and the births of her beloved grandchildren. All the while, her love and adoration for her family never wavered.

Sallie was brought up in a Christian home, and confessed her belief in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was baptized at Greater Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, and later attended Tabernacle Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. No matter what, everyone knew that Sallie loved the Lord, and she always expressed to her loved ones that she knew from whom her strength comes!

On Tuesday afternoon, March 5th, 2024, God decided that the time had come for Sallie to return home to Him. She will be deeply missed by the host of people who have come to know and love her, but no one has any doubts that the world was made a better place by her presence.

She is preceded in death by her mother Mrs. Sallie Brooks Norfleet, her father Mr. Arnett Norfleet, Sr.; brothers Samuel Norfleet, Sr., Jesse Norfleet, Sr., and John Wesley Norfleet, Sr.; and sisters Dorothy Norfleet-Deyampert, Lois Russell, and Naomi Pettigrew.

Sallie is survived by her husband of 48 years, John W. Haskin; her children Nicole (Bennie, Sr.) Radford, Kendra (Christopher) Lindsey, and John C. (Shanique) Haskin; grandchildren Bennie (Amber) Radford, Jr., Brittany Radford, Kendyl Cobb, and Ziaire Haskin; sisters Estelle Martin, Clydia (Willie) Green, and Mamie Norfleet; brothers George (Ruth) Norfleet, Arnett (Bonita) Norfleet, Jr., Reginald Norfleet, and Albert (Carla) Tubbs; sisters-in-law Arlene Norfleet and Marvis Norfleet; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
