Gloria Nelson Obituary

Gloria Jean Nelson was born on January 7, 1951 in Pine Apple, Alabama to the late Preston and Frances Nelson. Gloria was a woman of strong faith, her faith didn’t get weary even until the end.  She left this earthly place on January 1, 2020 at 9:10 a.m. at Vaughn Medical Center in Selma, Alabama.

 Gloria accepted Christ at an early age. She was one of the original members of  Lawrence Street Church  God In Christ (which later became Gospel Tabernacle Church of  God In Christ) where she was a faithful member serving as CFO (Chief Financial Officer), Sunday School Teacher, Board Member, ATAP Community Development Corporation, Financial Accountability Instructor, Evangelist Missionary, Prayer Warrior, Bible Study Teacher, Assistant Teacher O. L. Meadows Bible College and Food Share Ministry Volunteer. One of her favorite scriptures was Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you and expected end.

 Gloria graduated from Perry County High School in 1969.  She furthered her education and graduated from Selma University and May 2014 Gloria received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in the College of Biblical Studies and Theology with Honors from Minnesota Graduate School of Theology. She was employed at Bush Hog for 25 years until she left to care for her mother and she was a Avon Representative for 50 years.

 Gloria was a humble person and great woman of God that love the Lord. Although she didn’t bare kids, she was definitely a mother to many

Gloria brother Rueben Smith and nephew Sam Ronald Hawkins proceeded her in death .

Gloria leaves to cherish her memories: two brothers,  Lee Smith of Washington, DC, Sammie (Emma) Nelson of Marion, Alabama; three sisters, Geneva (Bob) Lancaster of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Frances Coleman of  Newnan, Georgia and Lula (Judge) Smith, Jr. of Pineapple, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces,great nephews and her Gospel Tabernacle Church Family.
