Obituary

God sent a special blessing to Alberta and Robert O. Williams on May 9, 1929 when Alberta was born. Alberta, “named after her mother” brought joy and laughter to every life she touched. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown, Alabama.

Alberta attended The Perry County Training School. After high school she  matriculated at The Alabama State College for Negroes in Montgomery, Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1953. She retired from the Perry County School System in 1992, after thirty-seven years, teaching and touching lives in Dixon Mills, Antioch, Uniontown High School, Heiberger Elementary School and Westside School.

She was joined in holy matrimony on August 25, 1953 to the love of her life, James Wesley Goree, Jr. To this union James Wesley Goree, III, “Lil James” was born. She moved to Marion and joined The First Congregational Church where she remained until her death. She served the church faithfully as: church secretary, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, and church treasurer.

Community service was an important part of her life. She served on the Marion Housing Authority Board and spent countless hours preserving her historic First Congregational Church. She was a member of the Perry County Retired Teachers Association, The Ladies Progressive Club, and an active member of several othr clubs and organizations.
