Arthur Binnion “Ben” Rutledge, Sr. was born to Willie and Alberta Rutledge on May 21, 1932 in Sprott, Alabama. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age and never deviated in his faith. In his early years he was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Marion and in his later years of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Marion.
His wife, Sadie M. Rutledge, daughter Sandra Rutledge, sons, Douglas L. Rutledge & Willis Rutledge, and five sisters, Naomi Patterson, Ola Gardner, Odessa Dunn, Carrie Hutchinson, and Elnora Cole preceded him in death.
He was a hard worker that provided for his family in every way he could. After “retiring”, he was a community fixture and could be seen around town Monday through Saturday talking to everyone he encountered. On Sunday, he was faithfully in church.
He was father to seven surviving children Nancy T. Jones, Georgia (Spergon) Rawls, Michael A. Rutledge, Karen D. (Richard) Rutledge-Bell, Cathy D. Rutledge, Arthur B. Rutledge, Jr., and Willis Jeffery Rutledge. He was granddaddy and/or “Pop Daddy” to 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of neighborhood children. Binnion is also survived by one brother Linton Charles (Flora) Rutledge and one sister Josephine Rutledge, and a host nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
