Deacon Robert Williams Sr Obituary

We gather here today to celebrate the homegoing of a faithful servant, Deacon Robert Williams, Sr. Born on the tenth day of February in the year of our Lord 1950, in the historic city of Selma, Deacon Williams commenced his heavenly journey on the twenty-sixth day of December 2024, at the Vaughn Regional Hospital, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family and church family.

Deacon Williams was the son of the late Charlie Williams, Sr. and Ethel Taylor. Though he was preceded in passing by his dear parents, his brothers Jim and Charlie Jr., his cherished son Robert Jr., and his beloved grandson Darrell, Deacon Williams's legacy is carried forward by a lineage of love and devotion.

Within the heart of his family, Deacon Williams's memory is held in the highest regard. He is survived by his children: Maury Williams of Riverdale, Georgia; Margaret Mitchell of Selma, Alabama; Dorothy and her husband Ronald Turner of Jonesboro, Georgia; Brenda Williams of Fayetteville, Georgia; Teresa and her husband Greg Cornejo of Sharpsburg, Georgia; Renee Williams of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and     Regina and her husband Norman Golar of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. His brother, Daniel Williams of Selma, Alabama, remains to honor his memory, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a community of friends who were all touched by his kindness.

For over fifty years, Deacon Williams served faithfully as a delivery man for Brown Drug Store, where his steadfastness and friendly demeanor became a cornerstone of daily life. His work was not merely a job but a ministry of service, where he connected with the community and embodied the love of Christ to all he encountered.

A devoted member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ for over twenty years, Deacon Williams carried out his duties with a spirit of humility and grace. As Chairman of the  Deacon Board, his gentle guidance and unwavering faith were sources of strength for the congregation. He was a man who lived by the Word and led by example. Those who knew Deacon Williams will recall a man of exceptional   character, love, faithfulness, and humor.  He was a man who gave without expectation and served without seeking reward.

As we bid farewell to Deacon Robert Williams, Sr., let us not dwell on the sorrow of his departure but rejoice in the knowledge that he has been called to his eternal rest. We are confident that he has heard the Lord's blessed words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

In the tapestry of life, each thread has its purpose, and Deacon Williams was a golden strand woven through the fabric of our community. His life was a testament to the power of love and the beauty of service. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the memory of his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.

As the sun sets on this chapter, we are comforted by the promise of a glorious dawn to come. In the words of Scripture, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." We take solace in knowing that Deacon Williams is now in the presence of our Savior, where he shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Let us honor his memory by living as he did—with love in our hearts, kindness in our actions, and  unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Deacon Robert Williams, Sr., your life was a sermon of humble service, and your  legacy will continue to preach long after your voice has stilled. Rest now in the arms of the Almighty, good and faithful servant. Amen.
