Estell Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 21, 2023. Born on January 21, 1941, in Perry County, Alabama, Estell was a woman of grace and fortitude, whose kindness touched all who knew her.
Estell was the cherished daughter of the late James Hogue and Nancy V. Williams. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother. Preceded in death by her parents, two children Valerie Smith and Stephanie Smith: and one granddaughter, Constance Harris.
After graduating from Lincoln High School, Estell pursued her passion for helping others by studying nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to the nursing profession, working at hospitals in Marion and Selma, Alabama, including Good Samaritan and Vaughn Hospitals. Estell's career culminated in her esteemed service at the Perry County Health Department, where she retired after years of committed service.
Estell's faith was a cornerstone of her life. At an early age, she joined the Morning Star Baptist Church, where she remained a devoted member until her health no longer allowed her to attend. Her faith was evident in the love and care she showed to her family, friends, and patients throughout her life.
Estell is survived by her devoted husband of many years, Robert C. Smith, and her one son, Frederick {Susan) Smith, of Jonesboro, Georgia. Estell was a proud grandmother, leaving behind seven grandchildren: Tameia Smith,(Brandon Dawson) Camille Harris, Darryl Sanders, Selena Lancaster, Tarvius Smith, Braxton Smith, and Braedyion Smith. Her joy was further multiplied with four great-grandchildren. Her family extended to her five sisters-in-law, dedicated caregiver Mattie Carr, and a multitude of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Estell had a passion for baking, and her red velvet cake was a family favorite. She found joy in the smiles her baking brought to the faces of her loved ones. She was known for her loving nature, her kindness, and her thoughtfulness, attributes that endeared her to all who knew her.
Estell's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and dedication. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, as a woman who lived her life with grace and compassion. Her legacy will continue in the lives of her family and the countless individuals she touched throughout her career as a nurse.
Estell Smith will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on through the love and memories shared by her family and friends. Her life is a beautiful example of service, love, and faith that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have known her.
