Fannie Ward Obituary

We celebrate the life and legacy of a remarkable woman, Mrs. Fannie Mae Ward. Born on the 18th of January 1948, in the humble town of Louisville, Alabama, she was a beacon of love and kindness that shone brightly for all who knew her. On the 23rd of May 2024, Mrs. Ward departed from this earthly realm, leaving a void in our hearts that can never be filled. Mrs. Ward was the cherished daughter of Rosa Phillips Young and Robert Young, Jr., both of whom preceded her in death, as did her beloved husband, Theola Ward, Jr., and her dear son, Keith Cornell Boykin. Her brothers: Jim Tom Phillips, Ollie Young, Robert Young, Jr., and Willie Young, who have all gone on before her. An alumna of the Camden Academy School, Mrs. Ward was a lifelong learner and an active member of her community. She joined Rock Baptist Church early in life and later became a cherished member of Free Will Church of God In Christ in Camden, Alabama. Eventually, she found her spiritual home at Gospel Tabernacle COGIC in Selma, Alabama, where she served as the esteemed Church Mother for many years. Mrs. Ward was a woman of many talents and interests. Her voice, lifted in song to the heavens, was a source of inspiration and comfort to all who heard it. Her hands, skilled in the art of sewing, crafted garments that were as warm as her embrace. Her baking brought sweetness not only to the palate but also to the soul. She loved her family fiercely, offering her wisdom freely and guiding them with a gentle yet firm hand. Her Pastor, John E. Grayson, and the entire GT Church Family held a special place in her heart. She was very much loved by them, and her presence was a blessing to the congregation. Mrs. Ward was a woman who loved everyone, never shying away from speaking the truth, whether it was to commend what was right or to correct what was wrong. Blessed in matrimony to Robert Lee Boykin, Sr., the Lord saw fit to enrich their union with five precious children: Robert (Olivette) Boykin of Camden, Alabama, Evelyn (Lyndon) Johnson of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Lizzie Johnson of Greensboro, Alabama, Denise (Willie) Lewis of Millbrook, Alabama, and the late Keith Cornell Boykin. These children were the joy of her life, and she nurtured them with a love that knew no bounds. Mrs. Ward's legacy continues through her eight grandchildren – Cortez, Kendrick, Lazonta, Takari, Quenton, Myron, Johnny III, and Charles Jr. – and her 13 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her boundless love and the values she instilled. Her family circle also includes her devoted brothers, John H. Young, David Young, and Roger P. Young. ; sister-in-laws Wendolyn (Larry) Morgan, Yolanda (Gary) Heard, brother-in-law Edgred (Queen) Ward, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly. Mrs. Fannie Mae Ward was the epitome of kindness, her loving nature was a comfort to all, and her friendly demeanor made her a friend to many. Today, as we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on so many lives. Her spirit, her love, and her teachings will live on in each of us. Though we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the time we were graced with her presence. Mrs. Fannie Mae Ward has taken her place in the Lord's heavenly choir, and while we will miss her here on earth, we take solace in knowing that she is at peace in the arms of our Savior. Rest well, dear Mrs. Ward, until we meet again on that glorious shore. Your life was a testament to God's love, and your memory will forever be a blessing to us all. Amen.
