James Eubanks Goree, Sr. was born April 27, 1938 to Sam Goree, Jr. and Gertrude Eubanks Goree in Marion, Alabama.
As a child he attended Perry County Schools, Hannah, Hopewell, Springhill, and Central, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The family was associated with Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Benson.
As a young man he worked tireless doing all the jobs that goes with country living, soybeans, corn, cotton, hay, okra fields, milk barns, and chicken farms.
He was united with Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W. D. Craig of Brierfield, Alabama. He served as Junior Deacon also under the leadership of Rev. G. W.C. Richardson of Montgomery, Alabama.
James was married to Peggy Moore of the North Perry Community, Marion, Alabama to this union one son was born Allen Bernard Goree (peewee). He later in life married Jettie B. Boyd of Marion, Alabama in which they shared five children, James E. Goree, Jr., Sandra, Stanley, Derrick, Janice.
After moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama he and his family united with the Weeping Mary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. L. Simpson the present Pastor is Rev. McKinney. He attended service faithful until his health declined. He loved all his family and made sure they heard about JESUS from him. When it was no longer safe for him to live alone, his daughter Sandra took him to live with her and her children Jalen, C.J., and Toya. His request to her was keep me as long as you can and keep me clean and when you can’t any more put me somewhere and come by ever now and then to see me. He retired after 27 years working with ALDOT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam And Gertrude Goree, Jr.; sisters, L. M. Hardwick, M. Ella Eubanks, Mallie, Callie. Lillie May; brothers, Douglas, Charlie H.,Wife, Jettie B. Goree a devoted brother-in-law Walter Jones aka Jack Snapper.
He leaves to mourn: Allen Bernard (Sandy) Goree (PeeWee), Derrick O. Boyd, Janice Boyd, James E. Goree, Jr., Sandra Goree Cole, Stanley Ray (Kimberlin) Goree; Seventeen Grandchildren, four great grands; one sister, Louise E. Goree Jones; dedicated nieces and nephews, Mrs. Willie Anna Curry Sanders, Revanor,Tomeika, Charles Eubanks and host of nieces ,nephews, other relatives of friends.
