James Shelly Thomas was born on October 17, 1959, in Beatrice, Alabama. He departed this earthly realm on June 10, 2024, leaving a void in our hearts that can never be filled.
James was the beloved son of Willie James and Bessie Thomas, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his brother, Willie James Thomas Jr.
James was a graduate of Selma High School. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church on Tremont Street. He worked as a Pallet Assembler in Michigan, at Pepsi Plant as a Production Operator, and as a Lab Technician in Selma, Alabama.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Tessie Thomas, and two sons, Jonathan Thomas (Tiffany) of Montgomery, Alabama, and Marcus Johnson (Jenise) of Selma, Alabama. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Amanda Bah of Selma, Alabama, Bernard Johnson of Selma, Alabama, and Tonya Johnson of Montgomery, Alabama. Additionally, James is remembered fondly by his seven siblings: four sisters, Mary Howard (Jessie) of Los Angeles, California, Brenda Gould (Tim) of Long Beach, California, Shenita Miller (Melvin) of Mobile, Alabama, and Temeka Thomas of Selma, Alabama; and three brothers, Richmond Thomas (Rarnarda) of Selma, Alabama, George L. Thomas of Detroit, Michigan, and Darrick Thomas (Cora) of Detroit, Michigan.
James's legacy extends to his eight grandchildren, his
step-grandchildren, and numerous aunts, an uncle, cousins, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
