Josie Mae Underwood was born on April 24, 1946 to the late Simon and Pearlie Mae Johnson in Marion, Alabama. She departed her life on June 30, 2016 peacefully at her home surrounded by family. Josie confessed Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Tabor AMEZ. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church and later join and became a faithful member at The Church Without Walls in Tuscaloosa, Alabama until she became ill.
Josie was loved and respected by family and friends. She was a very caring and happy person who enjoyed helping others. She enjoyed spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies includes reading her bible, cooking, and watching soap opera.
Josie was preceded in death by her father, Simon Johnson, her mother Pearlie Mae Johnson, sisters Irma Nell Johnson, Clementine Robinson, Lula Johnson, and Claretta Williams. Brother Robert Johnson. Uncles, Williams Tubbs Jr. and Robert Tubbs. Aunts, Idella Handss, Lozella Nelson, Catherine Griffin, Lessie Kynard, and Mable Tubbs, and grandson Tyler Griffin.
She leaves to cherish her memories; six children, Johnny (Tanya) Underwood, Robert (Carla) Underwood and Richard Underwood of Marion, Alabama, Barbara (Earnest) White of Moundville, Alabama, Carla Underwood , Monica Underwood of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Two grandchildren that she raised Latanya and Latasha Underwood of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Two brothers; Leroy Johnson and James Johnson of Brookyln, NY. Twenty-nine grandchildren, sixteen great grand-children. Three aunts; Queen Harris of Mobile, Alabama, Charlotte Wemees of Fort Wayne, IN, Annie Foster of St. Petersburg, FL. Hosts of cousins, nieces and nephews. Best friend and cousin Pauline Robertson and special friend Linda “Polly” McKenzie.
