Mamie was born in Marion, Alabama, on July 27, 1934, to the union of the late James and Bessie Munden.
Mamie united in marriage to Arthur Lee Bennett on October 11, 1955, in Marion, Alabama and immediately moved to Michigan. To this union four sons were born, Alonzo (preceded her in death), Alphonzo, Christopher and Donald.
In 1953, Mamie graduated from the historic Lincoln Normal School, in Marion, Alabama. She continued her education by attending Alabama State University.
In her early years in Detroit, she worked as a companion for seniors at Arnold Nursing Home. Mamie continued her education in Detroit, Michigan and became a Licensed Practical Nurse where she worked at Grace Hospital.
Mamie joined New Prospect Baptist Church in Detroit. She served in the choir and taught Sunday School and in other capacities in the church.
In 1983, Mamie and Arthur migrated back to Marion, Alabama. Mamie and Arthur joined St. James Baptist Church, they later united with the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully.
Mamie departed this life on October 30, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons Alphonzo (Darlene), Christopher and Donald (Donna), 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Munden, nieces Sherry, Elizabeth and Sandra, nephews Ronnie, Brian and William, great nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
