Ned "Black Magic" Suttles Obituary

Ned Leon Suttle, affectionately known as "Black Magic" to many, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 18, 2024 . Born on May 30, 1951, in Perry County, Alabama, Ned was a man whose presence was as unforgettable as his nickname. He was born to the late Junious Lake and Quillie Rutledge Suttle and was the beloved patriarch of a family that revered him deeply.

Ned was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Oscar, Bobby, Jesse, Samuel, and his sister Ora Walton.

Ned shared a life of love and laughter with his wife, Ella Heard Suttle, and together they brought four wonderful children into the world. After Ella's passing, Ned found love again and married Dorothy Smith Suttle on December 19, 2003, who now mourns his loss alongside a large and loving family. Ned's legacy is carried on by his cherished children: Tammy Suttle and Kimberly (Lloyd) Martin of Marion, Alabama; Stacey Rutledge of Pelham, Alabama; Ned Suttle, Jr., of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Scott (Christina) Jackson of Marion, Alabama; Shawnta (Julius) Robinson of Roswell, Georgia; and Bryan Johnson of Selma, Alabama. His memory will also be treasured by his 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, He is survived by his sister Ruth Patterson of Pulaski, Tennessee. A vast network of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, and friends also feel the loss of a man who was a fixture in their lives and the community who will miss their grandfather's warmth and humor.

 

A proud graduate of East Perry High School, Ned's work ethic was as strong as his character. He dedicated many years as a truck driver for the City of Marion and worked at Simco Boaz of Centreville, Alabama, for several years. His professional life was marked by a commitment to service and a friendly demeanor that made him well-respected among colleagues and friends.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Ned was known for his passion for music and his talent as a DJ at Lee's Lounge and other venues in Marion, Alabama. Under the moniker "Black Magic," he brought joy and entertainment to countless individuals, sharing his love for rhythm and sound. His hobby was a reflection of his loving, funny, and friendly nature—a trinity of traits that best describe a man who was truly larger than life.

Ned's interests went beyond his work and music; his heart was always with his family and friends. He had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness for those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy is not only in the bloodline he leaves behind but also in the countless memories he created with every person he touched.

As we say goodbye to Ned Leon Suttle, "Black Magic," we celebrate a life lived with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love. His story is one of a man who built a rich tapestry of relationships and experiences that will continue to inspire and guide us. Though he has left this world, his magic will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
