Roxie Goree Obituary

God sent a special blessing to Alberta and Robert O. Williams, Sr. on August 20, 1940, when Roxie Williams Goree was born. She was affectionately known as “Poola” by most of her family and friends and she brought so much joy and laughter to every life she touched. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown, Alabama. Roxie attended Lincoln Normal School. After high school she attended Alabama State University, formerly Alabama State College, in Montgomery, Alabama where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1964 and a Master of Education degree in 1977. She retired from the Hale County School System in 2001, after 35 years as a Librarian, teaching and touching lives in Dixon Mills and Sunshine High School. She was joined in holy matrimony on February 25, 1967, to the love of her life, Palmer Lutrel Goree. She lived in Marion where she remained until she departed this life on March 18, 2025. She remained a faithful member of the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of The Ladies Progressive Club and Perry County Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert O. Williams, Sr., mother, Alberta F. “Mut” Williams, five brothers, Robert O. Williams, Jr., Loin “Bish” Williams, George “Tuttie” Williams, Joe Albert Williams, Alvin Williams, and three sisters, LaDell W. Davidson, Dora W. Wynne, Alberta W. “Tut” Goree, along with her beloved companion and “fur baby”, Toby Goree. Loving her still and cherishing her memory are son, Leroy (Debra) Goree; daughter, Pamela Goree Dancy, one grandson, Trevor L. Goree, two granddaughters Danielle N. Goree, and Jaelyn S. Dancy, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her very best friend, Floresteen Smith.
