Spencer Hogue

Mr. Spencer   Hogue, Jr., was born on August 24, 1934, in Marion, AL, to the late Mrs. Willie   Anna Lapsley and the late Spencer Hogue Sr. He entered into eternal rest on September 18, 2016.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Oak Grove United Methodist Church in  Marion, AL.  He later united with Zion United Methodist Church in Marion, AL.  In the year of 1994, he helped establish the Freewill Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Elonzo     Harry.  Spencer received his education with Perry County School System.  He served as New South Coalition and City Councilman and Mayor Pro-tem.  He worked with Unity Life Insurance Company and Booker T. Washington Insurance Company.  He also served as a member of the Perry County Civic League.  He serviced the City of Marion and surrounding counties during the Civil Rights Movement.  He was employed with the County as the Machine Operator.  He was  also a farmer.  He served as chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, and chairman of the Trustees Board under the leadership of Pastor Odis L. Sanders.
 
In the early part of his life Spencer Hogue Jr. united in marriage to the late Jane Hogue, and to this union nine children was born. Five of which are living; James, Oliver, Sandra, Janice, Franklin.
 
Spencer was preceded in death  3 sons, Edward , Robert and Ray; 1 daughter, Jacqueline; 3    brothers; Arthur B. Underwood, Chester Hogue, Johnny Earl; 5 sisters, Peggy, Carrie Mae, Annie Ruth, Martha Hogue, Roseanna Beverly.

On November 25, 2000, Spencer united in marriage to Minister Thelma Hogue.
 
Spencer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a helper who served so many others in the surrounding area.
 
He leaves to cherish his precious memories:  his devoted wife, Minister Thelma Hogue; children, James Spencer (Joyce) Hogue, Oliver  Louis (Melanie) Hogue, Sandra Hogue Mahan, all of    Marion, AL , Janice Hogue Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL, and (Major) Franklin (Almita) Hogue of Fairburn, GA; one adopted daughter Nickey (Jeffery) Fuller; 15 Grandchildrens, 16 Great    Grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild; Five stepchildren,  Alberta McCarter, Glenda   Tyra Fields, Deanna (Remond) Smith, Quohonna (Antonia) Meeks and Vanlanger Swingler ,   special step granddaughter, Sherry (Steve) Bolds all from St. Louis, MO; 11 step grandchildren, 17 step great-grandchildren; raised four  children, Janice, Tianicia, Erika, Jeffery Thomas of   Marion, AL;  Spencer had 26 sisters and brothers:  Eurtha (Ann) Lapsley, John (Betty) Lapsley , Willie Paul (Jennie) Lapsley, William “Bill” Hogue, Robert ( Jackie) Hogue, Cecil (Joann) Hogue, Harold ( Pamela) Hogue, Willie Neil Hogue, Lee Curtis ( Zonda) Chapman; Sisters;    Earline Lapsley, Doris Payton, Betty Robinson, Carolyn Best, Norma Jean Hogue, Dorothy Billingsley, Spencer Mae Williams, Annie Hill, Annie Wilkerson; 5 sister-in-laws, Irma Nell    Underwood, Shirley Ann Hogue, Mardella Lee, Sara Wright and Dorothy Childs;  2 brother -in -laws Leo Griffin, Lloyd Jackson; Special Cousin, Dr. Edward (Ann) Harper; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
